Hello!
Welcome to the EPCIN forum! Start by introducing yourself, what you do, where youβre from, and what brings you here…
Hi there everyone! It’s nice to meet you all…
My name’s Sam. I’m a specialty trainee doctor in intensive care medicine, currently working in Liverpool, UK. I have a special interest in palliative care, have led the writing of guidelines to get our patients into an outdoor space at the end of life (if that is what matters most to them), and I’m currently writing guidelines to get our patients home, when that is their preferred place of death. I do this through the Intensive Care Society.
I am the latest EPCIN co-chair, joining Steph, Natalie and Sally; and I am the creator of the EPCIN.uk website (so let me know if there is anything I can do to make it better!)
Hi everyone! Very exciting to be able to network this way – thank you Sam for your incredible website work!
My name is Steph and I am an Academic Clinical Fellow in Palliative Medicine, after completing pre-speciality Acute Medicine training. 75% of my time is clinical, working within the specialist palliative care team. The other 25% is dedicated to research and my area of interest is implementation of palliative care in the ICU setting.Β
I developed the idea for EPCIN as a place for us to share knowledge and experiences to progress the field of palliative and end-of-life care in the ICU and am thrilled to be a co-chair alongside Natalie, Sally, and Sam.Β
Looking forward to hearing from you all and continuing to grow the network!
Hi πΒ
My name is Emma, and I am a pre-doctoral clinical academic fellow and staff nurse in cardiac intensive care. I am currently based at the Wolfson Palliative Care Research Centre at Hull York Medical School, where I am researching end-of-life care in cardiac intensive care.Β
Hi @emma-s, it’s great to have you here! Happy New Year 🥳
Hello everyone, my name is Donna and I am a Counselling Psychologist working at North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) at Queen’s Hospital and King George’s Hospital in Oncology 4 days a week and in a Specialist Palliative Care Team for the other day. I recently started a pilot project in palliative care to offer psychological support for people living with non-malignant disease ie. COPD, lung disease, kidney failure, MND etc. However I work predominantly with cancer patients.Β
I was introduced to this community by a palliative care doctor in our team and I am very happy to be here and hope to learn and contribute in any way that I can.
@dstew It’s a pleasure to welcome to the community! 👋🏻 What a wonderful role you have it sounds! Are you having a good uptake to your pilot? It would be great to hear more sometime! Hope to meet you virtually at the next webinar!
@sam-clark thank you, yes; we have had a good uptake. The pilot started in November 2023 so still finding our feet and embedding the service into an existing team which always has its challenges, currently working on the referral process, improving awareness of the service and collecting meaningful data in the hope that we will be able to justify the service for more funding next year.Β
Planning to be at the next webinar, hopefully see you there!
